Lantheus challenges Eli Lilly with FDA-approved Alzheimer’s tracer

Eli Lilly has until now had the US market for tau PET imaging in Alzheimer’s disease to itself. The pharmaceutical giant is now facing competition after the FDA approved radiopharmaceutical company Lantheus’s Tauklarify.

Tauklarify is a radioactive tracer injected before a PET scan, allowing deposits of tau protein in the brain to be visualised in adults with cognitive impairment who are being evaluated for Alzheimer’s disease.

The approval is based on two studies in which independent reviewers assessed PET scans from more than 500 participants.
